Week 1: Update

What a difference it made to remove the kitchen island. I'm telling you, the entire space feels twice the size. And, we lucked out finding hardwood running completely underneath! We will save some money there because our flooring guy won't have to weave in new boards. At first I expected to replace the built in island with a furniture island, but now I'm not so sure.

Another kitchen update: today we ordered new kitchen appliances! We were able to take advantage of Memorial Day sales once again and save some serious budget funds here too! We ended up going with a Whirlpool line, complicated by the fact that we have to replace a double wall oven that is only 24" wide. I think we're going to be very happy with our choices, and to come in under budget.  Albert Lee Appliances in Bellevue is going to deliver, haul away and install for us, which is a relief.

Wallpaper removal update:
 The living room was really challenging. We decided to add paneling under the chair rail and paint above instead of completing the removal.

 The wallpaper in the 1/2 bath came down super quickly...not sure why.

My dad removed the lion's share of wallpaper in the formal dining, which was floor to ceiling, and was also challenging.  Thankfully, we got this room done in time to texture and paint ahead of the floors.

Kids' bedrooms are painted:
 Lavender for her
Soft gray for him

And we finalized our paint palette. What can I say? It's a lot of gray:

Last but not least, no Memorial Day weekend would be complete without hanging a flag out front, to pay tribute to those who served and are no longer with us, including both of my grandfathers.

Our New Mukilteo House

We just closed on our new home in Mukilteo, WA! Our house search extended from Shoreline, WA, to Bothell, and north to Mukilteo, where we finally stumbled upon this 1994 colonial.  It's a five bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, 2,766 SQ ft house with a three car garage. So many updates!!!

Living room: We gave up on removing the wallpaper below the chair rail in the living room and decides to add paneling over it instead! Luke hit a remnant sale at HD and ended getting all the paneling for less than $100. He installed it and I painted it and the chair rail in Sherwin-Williams extra white. The walls in the living room are Sherwin-Williams "comfort gray". This room looks clean and traditional and beachy and I love it.  Dining Room: We had to texture the walls in the dining room after removing the original wallpaper. Neither of us has previously textured walls, so we were a bit nervous about it, but it turned out great! Went through four cans of spray, and got great coverage. We painted over the texture in Sherwin-Williams "Oyster Bay", which is one value shade lighter than the "Comfort Gray" in the living room. Roof! Our new roof, complete with new skylights and guuters/downspouts is now complete! ...
