One Big Sunday

Today we met my parents at church, left the kids with them for lunch, then drove to the Sherwin-Williams in Mukilteo to start picking out paint for bedrooms and ceilings, and the dining room and living room downstairs.
Claire wanted a lavender paint for her bedroom, and we picked Enchant which will match her bedspread nicely. Levi's room will be in "Lite French Gray" because he has some teal furniture that will bring color into the room.

At 2 pm my parents brought the kids up to the house, and we also welcomed Pepper and Clint, who we contracted to do demo in the powder room, cap off electrical that we no longer needed on the floor, and to remove the kitchen island. I'm so relieved that we brought them in, because I did not want to risk a DIY mishap with plumbing or electrical on our first day of projects...and they worked hard and fast to remove the items we needed out before the floors could be refinished.

1/2 bathroom downstairs gutted.
What's this you ask? There used to be a floor outlet in the middle of the family room, but it was not working, and we wanted it covered when the floors are refinished. Pepper, the "Jane of all Trades" capped it off for us. My dad taped over it because Levi was afraid he "would stub his toe, or trip, or someone would get hurt"...a kid after my own heart.

WALLPAPER:
The biggest task of the day for my mom, dad, sister and I was starting to temovethe wallpaper in the 1/2 bath, dining room, living room, and upstairs bathroom in preparation for painting. The hope is to get as much painted as possible before the floors begin June 4th. We started with just water, but ultimately resorted to a 1:4 mixture of fabric softener and water. That did work well in the stubborn living room.  My hero of a dad spent all afternoon diligently working on the dining room, and I'm so thankful. It was a really big removal project, but doing this ourselves saved us anywhere between $1000-2000 in labor. Even the kids pitched in and had great fun with the catharsis of ripping anything off the walls. (Parent sanctioned destruction? Why yes, don't mind if we do!)

Luke worked like a madman painting and priming in the bedrooms upstairs. Levi's room is entirely primed and the ceiling and dormer are painted. Claire's room is primed and the ceiling and one wall are painted as well.

And lastly, no new house is really our new home until we have to make this essential last minute purchase:

TOMORROW'S PLAN:
  • Sleep as late as Luke will let me.
  • Remember to bathe the children.
  • Return to the house early with coffee.
  • Finish wallpaper removal and painting in kid's rooms.
  • Begin (and finish) paint in living room.
  • Return to Sherwin Williams to purchase more paint during their 30% off Memorial Day Sale.
  • Ben and Sarah get to visit!
Washer and dryer were ordered and will be delivered June 16th!

Ordering remaining appliances this week!

Scheduled Pepper and Clint to return June 24th to install the new half bath components. (I still need to shop for and purchase these components...)

Days until entry : 33

Sore and tired and happy and grateful for family and hard work.
